Iraqi PM Shrugs off Barzani’s Independence Claims
The Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri Maliki has little faith in Barzani’s claims that he will found a free Kurdish state, saying they have all been heard before.
The Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri Maliki has reacted against the Northern Iraq Regional Administration’s PM Masoud Barzani’s announcement that his government was planning to establish a free Kurdish state.
Speaking to the Al Manar television channel, Maliki brought to mind for how long this “threat” had been heard, and how often repeated. However, according to Maliki, the Kurds had already chosen to remain as a part of Iraq. Maliki cited the result of the Iraqi Constitutional referendum, which resulted in a federal system in Iraq.
The Iraqi PM also responded to Barzani’s accusation that he had behaved in a way contrary to the country’s constitution, saying, “Up to now I have not put a foot wrong regarding the constitution; but I have documentary evidence of the dozens of mistakes of those politicians who have accused me.”
