Russian Post-Soviet Aid to Ukraine Amounts to $250 Billion
The Russian Prime Minister has made a statement to the Duma on the amount of aid granted to Ukraine by Russia since the fall of the USSR.
The Russian Prime Minister Dmitri Medvedev has made a statement on the vast amount of aid afforded Ukraine by Russia since the dissolution of the Soviet Union. The amount of aid given, he says, amounts to $250 billion.
The Voice of Russia reports that Medvedev told the Duma on Wednesday; “The figure you just called - about $250 billion - is a fair figure. Essentially, this is the size of the support that we may have provided to our Ukrainian friends and brothers during the entire post-Soviet period at the expense of all sorts of preferences, including the non-market conditions for gas trade.”
Medvedev described the aid as a “kindness” extended to Russia’s close neighbours, adding that this was also a sign of his country’s strength.
