The Turkish Armed Forces’ unit of the maroon berets reportedly conducted a leading military operation to the Tomb of Suleyman Shah by helicopters 45 days before the armoured vehicles set off to bring aid. As the al-Qaeda seized the control over the region around the police station, the routine operations of the Turkish army stopped quite a while ago. However, the regular flights of Turkish jets have started once again to provide aid to the Tomb, also known as the only Turkish territory outside the Turkish borders.
Following the temporary reinforcement of Turkish jets to the region, armoured vehicles brought aid overland, as well, which was confirmed by Prime Minister Erdoğan and Chief of the Land Forces, Hulusi Akar, earlier this week. Six tanks and 12 armoured vehicles have returned to Turkey after delivering the aid to Turkish soldiers who defend the Suleyman Shah’s tomb.
